The sun cast bright rays into Lisa’s bedroom window, which streaked her face and ultimately woke her up from her light sleep. She had hardly slept due to her nervousness and excitement. Today the 9th of may signified a lot in her life. The day she had lost her trusted best friend, mentor, protector , her mother. But she didn’t linger on the sadness of her and in her opinion the world’s loss. Today was a good day and she figured God and her ma were smiling down on her.
“The Lord is my shepherd…” Lisa lay in bed and let her thoughts wonder. She remembered Pete, blessed, handsome Pete who had swept her off her feet at 18. She thanked Pete for bringing her closer to God, “without Pete the Lord and me would’ve been a one-way-street relationship, love coming down and none going up” she would occasionally joke. Gentle and kind Pete; well for the few months after marriage though. But that too like his relationship with God had gone. He who had punched her out of pregnancy and any hope of motherhood and had stood and watched her groan and bleed to near death. And then there were the numerous mistresses,
“…He restores my soul…”
Through all this Lisa had stayed true to her vows opting to find peace, solace and companionship in between the pages of her now worn bible. And though it felt like a dagger in her heart and her back, it had come as no surprise to her when Pete kicked her out of the house, because he had found ” a good woman”
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil…”
Relying on God to help her heal and to learn to trust again, her love for God grew, she grew in him. She forgave Pete and wished him no harm
“…I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. ”
She often wondered if she could ever love again, “you will” her ma said, “But of course!,” The Lord said . And she had. Lisa had met Joshua. Sincere Josh who adored and cherished her , loved her deeply and loved God even more. And when Josh had proposed 2 months ago there had been no doubt in her mind
“…u have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life…”
On hindsight, she reckoned all that she had gone through with Pete was necessary,,,it had toned her for a blessed matrimony, she had learnt tolerance, kindness, patience ,had learnt what and how love is. She felt that the devil had tried to use Pete to confuse her and to make her lose faith and hope in God; it could’ve worked too if it wasn’t for her ma
“…And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. ”
Lisa smiled as she got out of bed and started preparing for her wedding day
