faith, God, gravity, His Big Story, love
Two friends are on their way home one sunny afternoon chatting and simply having fun when one trips and falls into the water below the bridge. The other immediately dives in to rescue the friend. Because he can’t swim, John who fell into the water, struggles and flaps his arms frantically making it hard for Jim to help. No matter how hard Jim tries the fury of John’s hands only distracts Jim’s effort. It is only when John gets too exhausted to struggle that Jim can efficiently pull him to shore. Thus if John had trusted his friend, he could have been out of trouble sooner!
Like John, most of us tend to run around, tempestuously like headless chickens doing nothing when trying to do everything. 2012 might have been hard but seeing its the new year, other than imposing last year’s unresolved resolutions on this year, maybe its time to stop flapping, aiming wildly and reflect realistically. Take time to stand still and catch your breath. Maybe your faith was tested in the past year. You need to know that for every John there is a Jim. Let God be your Jim. Know that He won’t leave your side and that times when you get yourself in a bind, stop yourself from fighting frenziedly making a mountain out of a mound. Perhaps this year you might try being still and letting God.
Psalm 46:10 ~ Be still & know I am God.
